The head coach of Senegal, Pape Thiaw, has stressed that his team must go into their semi-final clash with Egypt with full focus if they want to progress to the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking in his pre-match interview, Thiaw described the Egypt team as a top-class side that cannot be underrated in any way.
“We will face a top-class team, I think they are the best team in Africa right now, but we are going into this match with respect and ambition. We know that we will face a very strong team tactically, especially since it is a team that is used to playing this type of match and has tremendous mental strength,” Thiaw said.
He continued, “We are determined to achieve this victory and reach the final, and above all, we are committed to our philosophy of play. We know that our approach will pay off.
“Regarding Egypt’s style, I say that caution is better than regret. We are preparing seriously for this match to avoid any distractions that might lead to us losing our focus.”
The semi-final encounter between Senegal and Egypt will be played on Wednesday, January 14. The highly-anticipated showdown will kick off at 17:00GMT.
