AFCON 2025: Senegal handed 10-day window to challenge CAF ruling at CAS
The Senegalese Football Federation has expressed strong dissatisfaction following a decision by the Confederation of African Football Appeal Board, which ruled that Senegal forfeited the AFCON 2025 final against Morocco.
The verdict saw Morocco awarded a 3-0 win and officially crowned African champions, a development that has clearly not gone down well with Senegal.
In the immediate aftermath of the announcement, the federation took to its official Facebook page to share a video of players celebrating the title with supporters aboard an open-top bus. The post appeared to underline their emotional connection to the trophy and signal their disagreement with the ruling.
Despite the tense reaction, the matter is yet to reach its absolute conclusion. Senegal has been granted a 10-day window from the date of CAF’s decision to lodge an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the final avenue available to contest the outcome.
As the highest authority in global sports disputes, CAS holds the power to deliver a binding verdict that cannot be challenged further.
For now, CAF’s decision remains in effect, with Morocco officially recognised as the winners of AFCON 2025 in accordance with tournament regulations. The next few days will be decisive as Senegal weighs its options between escalating the case or accepting the ruling.
