DR Congo coach Sebastien Desabre had expressed satisfaction and pride after seeing his team hold Senegal to a 1-1 draw in a demanding AFCON 2025 group clash in Tangier.
Desabre had described the match as intense and admitted his side started slowly before growing into the game. He felt the second half was excellent from DR Congo and matched exactly what they had planned, especially in terms of intensity and aggression.
The French coach had underlined that their target was to reach four points after two games, and by drawing with the defending champions, they had met our targets. He highlighted the difference from their previous meeting with Senegal in Kinshasa, noting that the two teams knew each other so well that every duel was tight and tactical.
“It was a hotly contested game. We needed to step up to the plate which we did. We started slowly and as time went on we improved. The second half was excellent and this fell in line with our plans. We wanted to have four points by the end of our second match so we have met our targets,” he said.
“It was a good game. It was a different game from what happened when the two sides played in Kinshasa. These two teams know themselves very well so playing against each other will always be tough as the games are very tight like it happened today.
“On the flanks Senegal were very swift with players like Jackson but we managed to contain them and that led to this result. Overall the guys put up a good show. We can congratulate the boys for a good job done.”
