Spanish international Sergio Ramos has voiced his support for his former Real Madrid teammate Brahim Diaz after the Moroccan’s disappointment at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Taranga Lions triumphed over the North Africa football heavyweights in a chaotic final, held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Sunday night.
Senegal had left the field after referee Jacques Ndala awarded a penalty kick to Morocco, minutes after disallowing a goal for the Taranga Lions.
But Mane urged his teammates to return to the pitch for the continuation of the match. Their return paid off with Pape Gueye netting the match winner after Brahim Diaz had squandered a golden penalty kick.
However, Ramos taken to social media to encourage Diaz, stressing players with character misses penalty.
“Only those with character miss. Always keep your head high, brother. Football always offers a chance for redemption, and you’ve given us far more than you lost today,” Ramos wrote on Instagram.
“Come back even stronger for the next match! You’re always in my team,” added the defender, expressing his backing and confidence in the player’s future.
Despite missing out on the title, the Real Madrid star managed to finish the tournament as the top scorer with five goals.
