Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has set his sights on a strong start to Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Morocco.
The three-time African champions will open their Group clash against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania on Tuesday in Fès, a fixture Chelle believes will be crucial to his team’s progress in the competition.
Nigeria have also been drawn alongside Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles and Uganda’s Cranes in the group, with only the top two teams guaranteed qualification to the Round of 16.
Speaking ahead of the opener, Chelle stressed the importance of beginning the tournament on a winning note, describing the first match as a decisive moment for his side.
“We’re happy to be here. This is a big game because this is the first game and the first game is very important. For sure, we want to win this game,” Chelle told a press conference in Fès.
Elsewhere in the group, Tunisia and Uganda are also set to face each other on Tuesday as the race for knockout qualification begins.
