Nigerian singer Davido has lost a 50,000‑dollar bet after backing the Super Eagles to beat Morocco in the AFCON 2025 semi-final, a match they eventually lost on penalties (4–2) after a goalless draw in regular time.
Before the game, Davido shared his betting slip on social media, proudly displaying his stake on a Nigeria win within 90 minutes, but the draw at full time meant his entire bet was wiped out despite the outcome being decided only after extra time and penalties.
He was not the only Nigerian personality to suffer from this shock result. TikToker Peller revealed he had lost 3,000 dollars on a similar bet for a Super Eagles victory in normal time, later appearing in a live broadcast where he vented his frustration in a sarcastic tone and criticised the team’s display compared with earlier performances in the tournament.
Morocco’s dramatic qualification for Sunday’s final not only ended Nigeria’s dream of another continental title, it also turned these high‑profile bets into an expensive miscalculation.
While the host nation now prepares for a historic showdown with Senegal, Nigeria must regroup quickly for the third‑place playoff against Egypt on Saturday, a match that offers consolation on the pitch but no chance to recover the money lost off it.
