Nigeria wrapped up a flawless Group C campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a commanding 3-1 victory over Uganda on Tuesday afternoon, finishing the group stage with three wins from three matches.
The result against the Cranes confirmed the Super Eagles’ place at the summit of the group and further underlined their credentials as one of the leading contenders for the continental title.
Nigeria took control of the contest in the first half and broke the deadlock after 28 minutes when Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s cut-back found Paul Onuachu, who made amends for a missed opportunity moments earlier by calmly slotting the ball home.
Holding a slim advantage at the interval, the Super Eagles returned with renewed intent after the break, maintaining their defensive structure while producing fluid attacking football. Their persistence was rewarded in the 62nd minute when Raphael Onyedika doubled Nigeria’s lead, finishing off a well-worked move after being set up by Samuel Chukwueze.
Just five minutes later, Onyedika struck again, drilling a low effort into the bottom-right corner to complete his brace and stretch Nigeria’s advantage to 3-0.
Uganda managed to pull one back in the 75th minute through Rogers Mato, but the goal proved little more than consolation as Nigeria comfortably saw out the match to secure all three points.
The victory sends Nigeria through to the Round of 16 as Group C winners, while Uganda’s campaign comes to an end at the group stage of AFCON 2025.
