Morocco has rolled out an innovative audio description system to help blind and visually impaired fans follow matches at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The technology was showcased during the quarter-final between Senegal and Mali, where visually impaired supporters in the stadium used specialized headphones to receive real-time commentary.
The system provided detailed descriptions of player movements, key plays, and other match events, allowing fans to experience the game independently while sharing in the stadium atmosphere.
The initiative is part of broader accessibility measures introduced for the tournament and has drawn widespread praise. Spectators and observers lauded the effort to promote inclusion and equal access to sport.
One X user described it as “one of the greatest services Morocco is providing during the current tournament,” noting that the technology offers far more than standard radio commentary by capturing every movement on the pitch “as if you are watching the match with your own eyes.”
The user also praised Morocco’s overall tournament organization, calling the audio description initiative a highlight of AFCON 2025.
Morocco’s efforts to enhance accessibility have added to the positive recognition the country has received for hosting the tournament, marking a new standard for inclusivity in African football.
