Head coach of Egypt Hossam Hassan has affirmed Mohammed Salah is in high spirt as they gears up for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The Pharaohs takes on Zimbabwe at Adrar Stadium in a highly competitive Group B clash on Monday, with both teams seeking for a flying start to the tournament.
Salah is expected to play a huge role for the Pharaoh, who last won the continental showpiece in 2010, defeating Ghana in the final.
Despite acknowledging Salah’s modest performance under his reign, Hossam Hassan insists the Liverpool is in high spirit for the AFCON tournament.
“I am always in contact with Mohamed Salah, and I met him when he joined the camp. He has great motivation,” Hossam told reporters.
“Since I took over the national team, Salah has gone through a decline in form, but he always regains his balance with the national team because he finds himself with his teammates.”
“Mohamed Salah will remain an icon and one of the best players in the world. His morale is very high, and we must not forget that Mohamed Salah wants to win the Africa Cup of Nations. God willing, he and his teammates will do something special for their country.” He said.
The 2025 AFCON tournament, which begun on Sunday, December 21 runs until January 18, 2026, with 24 countries battling for the covetous trophy.
