Mohamed Salah delivered a record-breaking performance on Sunday as Egypt booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Ivory Coast at the Adrar Stadium.
The Pharaohs advanced from the quarter-finals after a thrilling contest, with Salah playing a decisive role in the outcome.
The Egyptian captain provided the assist for Rami Rabia’s goal before scoring Egypt’s third himself, capping an outstanding individual display on the night.
That goal and assist carried special significance, as Salah reached 100 goal contributions for the Egyptian national team.
The Liverpool forward achieved the milestone in fewer international appearances than global icons Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
At 33 years old, Salah now boasts 65 goals and 35 assists in just 111 appearances for Egypt, making him the fastest African player to reach 100 goal contributions at the international level.
He is also the third-fastest player globally to achieve the feat, trailing only Brazilian legends Pelé and Neymar.
Pelé remains the quickest to reach the landmark, doing so in 77 matches, followed by Neymar with 94 appearances. Salah’s achievement places him ahead of several modern greats, including Romelu Lukaku, Luis Suárez, Lionel Messi, Ali Daei, Robert Lewandowski, Cristiano Ronaldo and Miroslav Klose, all of whom required more matches to reach the same tally.
Salah will be key for Egypt on Wednesday, January 14, when they take on Senegal in the semi-finals.
