Equatorial Guinea coach Juan Micha expressed mixed feelings after his team’s 1-0 loss to Sudan in a chilly Group E clash at Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca.
The defeat, sealed by an own goal from defender Saúl Basilio Coco-Bassey Oubiña in the 74th minute, leaves Nzalang Nacional fighting for survival in the TotalEnergies AFCON. Micha highlighted their dominance despite the heartbreak.
Juan Micha reflected candidly on the match, noting Equatorial Guinea’s strong play but failure to convert chances. “We played to win against Sudan and it was a difficult match. We created chances to score but did not take them,” he said. He praised his side’s first-half superiority, where they outplayed Sudan, but lamented the second-half shift when attacks yielded no goals, leading to the costly concession.
Micha remained pragmatic, accepting the result while congratulating Sudan.
“In the end, we accept what happened and congratulate the Sudanese team, who played well and won. I do not rely on the fans to decide our line-up; I choose it according to my own options,” he added. With the group now wide open, Equatorial Guinea must rebound in their final outing to keep knockout hopes alive.
