Morocco midfielder Azzedine Ounahi will remain with the national team in camp until the conclusion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) despite being ruled out of the competition through injury.

The Atlas Lions have resumed training ahead of their quarter-final clash against Cameroon, scheduled for next Friday, as the tournament continues in Morocco until January 18.

On Monday, January 5, 2026, the squad held a training session at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, with the focus primarily on recovery and fatigue management.

During the session, the technical team tailored the workload to suit the physical condition of each player, while maintaining overall fitness levels and mental sharpness as preparations intensified for the decisive encounter with Cameroon.

Medical assessments have confirmed that Ounahi sustained a muscle injury to his leg, leading to his official withdrawal from the remainder of the tournament. The midfielder is currently undergoing a specialised treatment and rehabilitation programme.

Despite his absence from match action, Ounahi will continue to stay with the squad to offer support to his teammates.

The host nation remains determined to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations at the end of the tournament.
