Former Cameroon coach Marc Brys has admitted he has avoided watching his former team’s matches at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, citing what he calls an unfair dismissal from the Indomitable Lions.
Cameroon entered the tournament amid internal turmoil. The team’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in October 2025 intensified tensions between Brys and Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) president Samuel Eto’o.
Their long-standing disagreements reached a peak when Brys was sacked just 20 days before AFCON kicked off.
Brys was replaced by David Pagou, who has since steered the Indomitable Lions into the tournament’s quarter-finals. Despite his absence, Brys says he still hopes the team succeeds.
“I sincerely hope Cameroon wins. The players are satisfied with the results, but disappointed by our absence with the staff,” said Brys, according to Actu Cameroun.
“No, I didn’t watch the match against South Africa. Nor the previous ones. “When you are unfairly left out, you no longer want to analyse these matches,” he added.
Cameroon is set to face hosts Morocco in the quarter-finals on Friday, January 9, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
