Egypt coach Hossam Hassan believes the Pharaohs leave the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with important long term benefits despite finishing fourth after a penalty shootout defeat to Nigeria in the third‑place match.
He said his players gave everything throughout the tournament and showed strong character in difficult circumstances.
Speaking in his post match press conference, Hassan described Nigeria as a powerful opponent packed with top players, but stressed that Egypt still produced a competitive performance despite injuries and suspensions. He explained that every game had its own conditions and approach, and that his team adapted as best they could.
Hassan underlined that Egypt “gained more than one player” in this AFCON, revealing that 11 new faces were used and impressed, which he sees as a key outcome for the squad’s future.
He added that Egyptian players will become even stronger if more of them move abroad, and noted that defeat on penalties ultimately comes down to luck.
The coach also insisted on his respect for all teams and supporters, stressing Egypt’s strong relations with every nation, including hosts Morocco, in a tournament he felt showcased a very high overall level.
