Gabonese international Denis Bouanga has expressed his frustration following the sides early elimination from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Panthers endured a difficult tournament after finishing last in their group with three losses against Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Mozambique.
However, Bouanga, who plies his trade for MLS outfit Los Angeles FC has shared his disappointment with this outfit early elimination from the continental showpiece.
“It’s very disappointing because we played very well before the tournament in the World Cup qualifiers, which makes this result difficult to accept, but we will continue to work because this is still a young team from Gabon.” He told SABC Sport.
“The Africa Cup of Nations is fantastic. Look at the Mozambique national team, for example; most people don’t know their players, but they surprised the teams.”
“In each edition, winning matches has become more difficult because there are no small teams in the Africa Cup of Nations.”
Gabon competed with Ivory Coast for a ticket to the 2026 World Cup finals, lost to the Elephants, and moved to the African play-offs, where they lost to Nigeria 4-1 in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, the Gabonese government has decided to dissolve the national team’s coaching staff and suspend all activities of the Gabonese national team indefinitely following their abysmal performance at the tournament.
