AFCON 2025: Fouzi Lekjaa holds talks with African Ambassadors ahead of tournament
Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and head of the local organizing committee, met on Tuesday, December 2, with African ambassadors in Rabat at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora, as Morocco ramps up preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
During the briefing, Lekjaa provided a comprehensive update on the country’s readiness to host the tournament, highlighting a vision guided by King Mohammed VI to promote African unity and cooperation.
He emphasized that a successful AFCON 2025 would be more than a national triumph—it would be a victory for the entire continent.
The ambassadors expressed confidence in Morocco’s preparations, applauding the seamless coordination between government institutions and the rapid development of infrastructure and logistics.
They pointed to Morocco’s modern stadiums, enhanced transport networks, and hospitality facilities as strong assurances that the tournament will run smoothly.
To strengthen collaboration, Lekjaa announced the establishment of a dedicated communication and coordination unit connecting the organizing committee with African diplomatic missions.
The unit will address logistical needs for participating teams, including travel, accommodation, and other essential services.
Morocco has invested heavily in sports infrastructure over the past years, with venues in Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Agadir, Marrakech, and Fez scheduled to host matches.
The country’s experience hosting major events, including the FIFA Club World Cup and the African Nations Championship, has bolstered its reputation as a dependable tournament host.
Set to run from December 21 to January 18, AFCON 2025 marks Morocco’s first time hosting the tournament since 1988.
The event is expected to draw millions of viewers across Africa and globally, boosting tourism while showcasing Morocco as a continental football hub.
Lekjaa concluded by reaffirming Morocco’s commitment to delivering a successful tournament, underscoring that AFCON 2025 belongs to all of Africa and will reflect the continent’s aspirations.
