The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is officially underway, with 24 national teams converging on Morocco, running from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.
This year’s tournament marks the 35th edition of the competition and is staged across nine stadiums in six host cities for a month of high-stakes football.
The competition begins with a group stage featuring six groups (A to F), each made up of four teams. You can get all the latest AFCON news on AfricaSoccer.com.
Every side will play three matches in a round-robin format, with early results likely to shape the fate of several contenders before the knockout rounds even come into view.
Only the top two teams in each group are guaranteed a place in the round of 16. They will be joined by four of the best third-placed teams, meaning goal difference, discipline and late goals could prove decisive across the groups.
From there, the tournament shifts into sudden-death mode, with the knockout phase producing the drama, shocks and defining moments that have made the AFCON one of world football’s most unpredictable competitions.
