The streets and public squares of Tangier remained alive until the early hours of Thursday morning as Moroccan fans poured out in celebration following the national team’s dramatic victory over Nigeria on penalties to book a place in the AFCON 2025 final.
Scenes of jubilation unfolded across the city as the Atlas Lions’ qualification sparked widespread celebrations, with large crowds gathering in cafés along the Tangier Corniche and in neighbourhoods across the capital of the Strait to follow the tense encounter.
Tangier moved to the rhythm of collective joy as young and old joined in the festivities, alongside foreign tourists whose presence in the city added to the unique celebratory atmosphere surrounding the historic achievement.
Hundreds of residents waved national flags and chanted songs in honour of the team’s success, while car horns echoed through the streets and fireworks lit up the night sky as fans expressed their delight at Morocco’s return to the Africa Cup of Nations final.
Celebrations are expected to reach their peak on Sunday, January 18, if Morocco can defeat Senegal to claim the AFCON title.
