Nigeria’s head coach, Eric Chelle, is uncertain about his future with the Super Eagles following the team’s semi-final defeat to Morocco in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
When asked about his position during his post-match interview, Chelle was non-committal, choosing instead to focus on Nigeria’s upcoming third-place clash against Egypt.
“It’s unclear. I’m the coach of Nigeria, and maybe my boss will tell me in a few days, ‘Your role is over,’ or ‘You have to continue,’ so I don’t know,” he said.
Chelle continued, “I’m trying to analyse this match in this tournament. We have one last match against Egypt. I’m proud of my players, but I’m disappointed for them because the truth is that we were probably the best team and we might leave this tournament with pride. So, regarding the question about my position, no, we have to focus on the Egypt match and win it.”
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face the Pharaohs of Egypt on Saturday, January 17, in the bronze medal match of AFCON 2025.
