The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed an Egyptian refereeing team to take charge of the Group E encounter between Sudan and Burkina Faso at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The crucial group-stage fixture is scheduled to kick off at 16:00 GMT on Wednesday and is expected to play a key role in shaping qualification outcomes in Group E, which also features Algeria and Equatorial Guinea.

CAF has entrusted the match to a full Egyptian officiating crew, with Mahmoud Abu El-Regal and Ahmed Hossam Taha named as assistant referees for the encounter.

Tunisian referee Mahrez Al-Maliki will serve as the fourth official, overseeing match procedures and ensuring the smooth enforcement of decisions throughout the contest.

In line with CAF’s continued use of Video Assistant Referee technology, Egyptian international official Mahmoud Ashour has been appointed to supervise the VAR system, assisted by Hossam Azab Haggag, as efforts are made to guarantee accuracy in key decisions and minimise officiating errors that could influence the outcome of the match.
