Egypt midfielder Emam Ashour has underlined the Pharaohs’ determination to secure a record eighth Africa Cup of Nations title at the ongoing tournament in Morocco.
Speaking ahead of Egypt’s Round of 16 clash against Benin, the Al Ahly talisman expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, stressing that the players are fully prepared for the challenge that lies ahead.
“As I said, there are no weak teams in Africa anymore. However, we are ready to face any opponent. Our goal is to win the eighth title and bring the trophy back home. The competition is strong, but we are prepared and we have high-quality players,” Ashour told CAFOnline in an interview.
The midfielder also reserved special praise for the Egyptian supporters, acknowledging their unwavering backing throughout the competition and highlighting their importance to the team’s motivation.
“The Egyptian fans are the number one player. We thank them for their constant support and encouragement, and God willing, we will do everything possible to make them happy and achieve the continental title,” he assured.
Egypt will face Benin in their Round of 16 encounter, which is scheduled to kick off at 16:00 GMT on Monday, January 5.
