Egyptian international Ahmed Sayed ‘Zizo’ has heaped praise on Morocco fans for the continued support at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Pharaohs finished on top pf Group B with seven points, one point ahead of second-placed South Africa, who defeated Zimbabwe 3-2 on Monday.
Before the final group game, Egypt had already secured a place in the round of 16 after back-to-back wins over Zimbabwe (2-1) and South Africa (1-0).
Speaking after the match, Zizo, who plies his trade for Al Ahly stressed the goal was to progress to the knockout stage, while expressing gratitude to the Moroccan fans for the impressive support at the tournament so far.
“Our goal in the group stage was to qualify in first place and we did that.” Zizo told ON Sport.
“All the players are at the highest level and all the players participated, and this is proof that Hossam Hassan gives everyone a chance, and we are all united.”
“I played for 10 minutes as a pure striker, just as Hossam Hassan asked me to, and I thank him for his confidence in me.”
“I thank the Moroccan public for their continued support of the Egyptian national team, and we feel like we are playing in Egypt.”
“The tournament is very strong, and all the teams are focused and want to win the title. Our goal is to play well in the next match and win.”
Egypt, seven-time champions, are seeking to reclaim the continental title as they enter the decisive phase of the Africa Cup of Nations, buoyed by strong performances and growing belief within the camp.
