Egypt’s opponent in the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations has been confirmed following the conclusion of the final round of matches in Group D.
The third and decisive set of fixtures in Group D, which featured Senegal, DR Congo, Benin and Botswana, brought clarity to the qualification picture, with three teams progressing to the knockout stage.
Senegal finished top of the group with seven points, edging DR Congo, who also amassed seven points to place second, while Benin claimed the third qualification spot with three points.
Egypt had already secured their place in the Round of 16 after an impressive group-stage campaign, finishing top of Group B with seven points from two wins and a draw.
As a result, the Pharaohs, who emerged as Group B winners, have been paired with Benin, the third-placed side from Group D, in a Round of 16 encounter scheduled for Monday, January 5, 2025.
The match will kick off at 6 pm Cairo time and 7 pm Mecca time, as Egypt look to continue their pursuit of continental glory at AFCON 2025.
