Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Hamdi was substituted before the half hour mark in the round of 16 clash against Benin at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after picking up an injury.
The 30-year-old, who is in the books of Pyramids FC was handed a starting role in the crucial game against Squirrels at the Stade d’Agadir in Morocco.
The experienced midfielder was in discomfort after colliding with a Benin player and had to be replaced by Ahmed Abou El Fotouh in the 46th minute, just before the end of the first half on Monday.
Before being substituted, the Pyramids marksman had showcased great performance in the midfield for the Pharaohs, who are keen on securing their eighth AFCON title in Morocco.
According to the team doctor of Egypt, Mohamed Abou El-Ela, the midfielder succumbed to a knee sprain, forcing him out of the much-anticipated clash.
“Mohamed Hamdi suffered a knee sprain and went to have an X-ray.” He said via the Egyptian Football Association’s media center.
The midfielder undergo further assessment to determine to extent of the injury as the continental showpiece heats up in Morocco.
