Dr Mohamed Abou El Ela, head of Egypt’s medical staff, has revealed the nature of the injuries sustained by two key players during the 2–1 victory over Zimbabwe on Monday.
The Pharaohs had fallen behind after 20 minutes through Prince Dube, before Omar Marmoush levelled on 63 minutes and Mohamed Salah struck a dramatic winner in the 90th minute to secure three crucial points at the start of their AFCON 2025 campaign in Morocco.
Abou El Ela said in comments to the Egyptian FA’s media centre that striker Mostafa Mohamed and left-back Mohamed Hamdy both suffered heavy bruises during the match. He confirmed that the pair will undergo further medical tests in the coming hours to determine the extent of the knocks and whether they can be available for Egypt’s next game.
The national team now turns its attention to a tough second Group B fixture against South Africa on Friday.
The medical updates on Mostafa and Hamdy will be closely monitored by coach Hossam Hassan and his staff as they plan for a clash that could be decisive in the battle for qualification.
