Head coach of Egypt Hossam Hassan is backing his captain Mohammed Salah to break records at the Africa cup of Nations tournament, being held in Morocco.
Salah joined the Pharaohs for the AFCON on the back of a feud with Liverpool, having struggled to hit the ground for the Reds in the current campaign.
Despite his modest performance at club level, the experienced pacey attacker has emerged as one of the standout performers for the Egyptian national team, who are gearing up for the round 16 clash against Benin on Monday.
The former AS Roma and Chelsea attacker has racked up two goals from three matches at the continental showpiece, signaling his influence in the national team.
However, Hossam Hassan has thrown his weight behind his captain to break records, hailing him as one of the best players in the world for the last ten years.
“Mohamed Salah is one of the best players in the world for the last ten years, and he is certainly capable of breaking records. He has ambition and a distinctive professional mentality, and I wish him success with the Egyptian national team and his club, Liverpool. He is one of the main pillars, and I hope he wins the title.” He said.
Salah is expected to play an instrumental role for the Pharaohs when they take on Benin in their last 16 clash on Monday, at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir, with both teams seeking for victory to secure a place in the quarterfinals.
