Former Zamalek star Ahmed Hossam Mido has lauded the Egyptian national team’s display in the Africa Cup of Nations, highlighting the impact of Al-Ahly players in their recent match against Angola.
Speaking on Al-Nahar TV, Mido congratulated the squad for advancing from a challenging group to the round of 16.
“The team’s performance across all three group matches was very impressive,” he said.
Mido credited coach Hossam Hassan for the team’s success, noting his experience as both a player and a two-time African Cup of Nations winner.
“Hossam Hassan’s leadership has earned the team respect from fans, fellow coaches, other national teams, the media, and CAF officials. Despite facing heavy criticism before the tournament, he remained steadfast and instilled the same resilience in his players.”
He singled out goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir for praise.
“Shobeir has shown courage, strong character, and emotional stability. Watching him play, one would think he has 70 or 80 international caps. He has faced immense pressure, yet he gives confidence to the defense and is shaping up to be an elite goalkeeper for years to come.”
Mido also highlighted left-back Ahmed Fatouh as a key asset.
“Fatouh’s performance today proves that nothing is impossible in football. He handles pressure well, defends effectively, and exudes confidence. His journey back after previous setbacks shows remarkable determination and focus. His return at this level is a testament to his strong personality, and he remains a vital player for Egypt moving forward.”
Overall, Mido emphasized the national team’s growth and readiness for the tournament’s knockout stages, praising both the players’ talent and the coaching staff’s strategic guidance.
