Egypt defender Ahmed Eid Mohamed Gad El Hak has apologized to their fans after missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.

The Pharaohs hope of securing their eighth AFCON title took a nosedive on Wednesday after succumbing to a 1-0 defeat to Senegal in a high-stake semi-final showdown.

Sadio Mane’s 78th-minute strike was enough for the Taranga Lions to secure a place in the final, while Egypt settles for the third-place fixture.

Egypt will now take on Nigeria, scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2026 at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.

However, the enterprising right-back has apologized to the fans, while promising victory against Nigeria.

“We have prepared ourselves well and are ready for the match, and we apologize to the Egyptian people after we failed to win against Senegal.”

“We forgot about the Senegal match after the coaching staff spoke with us, and our goal is to win against Nigeria.”

The 25-year-old has played one match in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations against Angola in the group stage, which ended in a goalless draw.

Egypt are the record holders of the Africa Cup of Nations (7 trophies), with their last success coming in 2010 against Ghana.
