Head coach of Egypt Hossam Hassan has opened up on the condition of Mohammed Salah ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations opener against Zimbabwe.

The Pharaohs takes on Zimbabwe at Adrar Stadium in a highly competitive Group B clash on Monday, with both teams seeking for a flying start to the tournament.

Salah is expected to play a huge role for the Pharaoh as they seeks to make a meaningful impact at the continental showpiece.

Despite issues with Liverpool, Hossam Hassan insists the enterprising attacker’s situation has changed, regaining his rhythm and confidence ahead of their opener.

“Mohamed Salah had some problems at a certain stage [at club level], but when he joins the national team, he gets back on his feet again because he is here with his country and his teammates.

Then he returns even better than before, and you can see that when he leaves the national team after helping us win and score goals, he goes back to Liverpool and performs at a higher level,” he said.

The 2025 AFCON tournament, which begun on Sunday, December 21 runs until January 18, 2026, with 24 countries battling for the covetous trophy.
