Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Laryea has received another major vote of confidence after being appointed Video Assistant Referee for the high-profile AFCON 2025 quarter-final between Morocco and Cameroon in Rabat.
The Confederation of African Football has entrusted Laryea with overseeing all key VAR interventions in a clash where every decision could shape the outcome. He will work alongside Tunisian official Haitham Guirat as Assistant VAR and Mauritanian referee Aboubacar Sarr as the second assistant in the video booth.
Laryea’s selection reflects his growing reputation as one of Ghana’s most respected referees and a reliable figure on the African stage. He has handled several major CAF assignments, including officiating the AFCON group-stage match between Algeria and Burkina Faso, as well as games in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
In a contest featuring hosts Morocco chasing glory and five-time champions Cameroon eager to impose their pedigree, VAR calls are expected to be under intense scrutiny, putting Laryea firmly in the spotlight. From the VAR room, he will once again be involved in one of African football’s biggest nights.
