South Africa’s head coach, Hugo Broos, is cautiously optimistic as his team gears up to face Morocco in the knockout stage of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite securing qualification with a 4-0 win against Namibia, a goalless draw with Tunisia, and a 0-2 defeat to Mali, Broos is mindful of the challenge ahead.
Having previously defeated Morocco 2-1 in an AFCON qualifier in June 2023, Broos believes in his players’ ability to understand and counter the North African team’s style of play.
However, concerns arise as key players Mothobi Mvala and Khuliso Mudau suffered knocks in the physical encounter against Tunisia.
Broos is apprehensive about their availability for the crucial match.
As South Africa faces Morocco in the knockout stage, Broos emphasizes the importance of familiarity with the opponent’s playing style, expressing confidence in his team’s capabilities.
“We know and understand this team how they play, as we have played them before. We have also won against them, and nothing is impossible,” Broos
“In this AFCON, we are seeing that nothing is impossible, and I believe in my players. I believe they can do it, and I know that they believe in themselves too.”
