President Teodoro Obiang Nguema has declared an urgent and generous gesture, awarding a special bonus of 1 million euros to the triumphant players and staff of Equatorial Guinea following their victory against Ivory Coast in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The thrilling win has not only secured the nation’s place in the knockout stages of the AFCON but also ignited widespread celebration among citizens.

This substantial bonus, a testament to the President’s appreciation for the team’s outstanding performance, reflects a commitment to recognizing and rewarding the dedication and hard work exhibited on the field.

The Nzalang Nacional finished as winners of Group A after stunningly thrashing hosts Cote d’Ivoire 4-0 in their last group game on Monday.

Two goals from experienced forward Emilio Nsue López and others from Pablo Ganet Comitre and substitute Jannick Buyla Sam condemned the hosts at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny.

The emphatic victory sees Equatorial Guinea finish first in the group with 7 points, followed by Nigeria, who also finished with 7 points before Cote d’Ivoire with 3 points and Guinea Bissau on zero points.

The president’s swift decision to grant this bonus emphasizes the importance of national pride and unity through sports achievements.
