The official ball for AFCON 2023 has been named “Pokou” in homage to the Ivorian legend, Laurent Pokou. The inspiration stems from Pokou’s remarkable feat in 1970 when, in a match against Ethiopia, he scored five goals, securing Ivory Coast’s qualification and setting a record for the most goals in an African Cup of Nations match.
The POKOU ball, presented during the draw for the competition in Abidjan, incorporates the national flag’s colors—white, orange, and green—and integrates cutting-edge technologies to elevate the game.
