Experienced gaffer Hugo Broos has named his final 23-man squad as the Rainbow nation heads back to the Africa Cup of Nations after missing out the last time in Cameroon.
This time around, the Bafana Bafana are back as they have managed to qualify for AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast, which kicks off next month.
The squad is virtually dominated by Mamelodi Sundowns as 10 of Rulani Mokwena’s men are named among the 23-man squad.
Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, Khuliso Mudau, Thapelo Morena, Aubrey Modiba, and Teboho Mokoena alongside Themba Zwane have been consistent performers for the Masandawana over the few years.
Al Ahly’s Percy Tau, Thabang Monare of Orlando Pirates and Evidence Makgopa are the guys who have been in Hugo Broos set up over the years.
Surprisingly missing out is Premier League import Lyle Foster, who helped Burnley to gain promotion from the Championship.
The Bafana Bafana won their only AFCON title in 1996 when they hosted on home soil and also been first-time participants.
After being paired in Group E with Mali, Tunisia, and fellow Southern African nation Namibia, all their group games come off at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo.
They begin their first game against Mali on January 16, then four days’ time against Tunisia before playing their last game against Namibia.
