Starting next week, the general public will be able to purchase tickets for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) matches, bringing months of anticipation to a close. The organizers have announced that ticket sales will begin next Tuesday through the official website, tazkarti.com, with a limit of five tickets per order. This marks an important step in preparing for the tournament, which is scheduled to take place from June 21 to July 19 in Egypt.
The launch follows the release of ticket pricing earlier in May, which was established in consultation between the AFCON organizing committee and the Confederation of African Football (CAF). In addition to pricing details, the Egyptian Football Federation has introduced an online platform to streamline the purchase process. The website is designed to be accessible to fans worldwide, ensuring that supporters of all participating nations can secure entry to the matches.
The ticketing process requires users to first create an account and obtain a FAN ID, a measure similar to that implemented for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Fans must select their country of nationality and preferred language, then provide a phone number and email address. A verification code is sent by email, which must be entered to proceed.
Next, fans are asked to provide personal information, including first and last name, blood type, and gender. The final registration step requires a passport number, a photo of the passport’s front page, and a personal photograph that meets specific guidelines. The photo must be clear, neutral in expression, and show the face occupying 70–80% of the image without sunglasses, hats, or caps. Once registration is complete, supporters receive their FAN ID and password, granting them access to the ticket selection system. Fans can then choose the matches they wish to attend, the seating category, and specific seats.
Beyond match access, the FAN ID also allows fans to enter the Fan Zone, a special area created by the AFCON organizing committee where supporters of all teams can gather to watch games together on giant screens. This initiative aims to enhance the fan experience and foster a festive atmosphere throughout the tournament.
Ticket prices are structured into three categories for matches not involving the host country. The first category is priced at 500 Egyptian pounds (approximately 26 euros), the second at 300 pounds, and the third at 100 pounds (roughly 5 euros). These tickets are valid for attending two matches on the same day if they take place in the same stadium, offering fans the opportunity to enjoy multiple games with a single ticket.
In addition to ticketing announcements, the organizing committee revealed the official mascot for the 2019 edition, named “Tut” in homage to the Pharaoh Tutankhamun. The mascot is expected to feature prominently throughout the tournament, symbolizing Egypt’s rich cultural heritage and adding a playful element for fans attending matches or visiting Fan Zones.
With tickets now accessible to the public and the tournament’s branding in place, preparations for AFCON 2019 are entering their final stage. Supporters are encouraged to register early to secure their preferred matches and seating, ensuring they do not miss the excitement of Africa’s premier football competition.
