Senegal Weighs Friendly Matches Ahead of 2017 Africa Cup of Nations
As part of their preparations for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Senegal is exploring the possibility of playing a friendly match before the start of the qualifiers. The Senegalese Football Association (FSF) has reportedly been contacted by two African nations—Angola and Burkina Faso—with proposals for a friendly fixture in early June, either on June 1 or 3.
However, the FSF has yet to give its official approval, as they are awaiting input from the head coach of the national team, who is currently in England on a scouting mission. The decision on the friendly match will ultimately depend on the coach’s assessment and approval.
The timing of the match is crucial, as most European leagues will conclude their seasons by the end of May. In France, the final matchday is set for May 23, while Spain’s La Liga and the English Premier League will wrap up by May 24. This timing ensures that most of Senegal’s top players, who are based in these leagues, will be available for the proposed friendlies.
The match would serve as a valuable opportunity for Senegal’s coach to fine-tune the squad ahead of the crucial qualifiers, as they aim to strengthen their preparations for the 2017 AFCON.
