Angola Announce 29-Man Squad for 2017 AFCON Qualifier
Angola coach Romeu Filemon has named a 29-man squad ahead of next month’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier — but once again, there is no place for striker Manucho.
Despite a decent season at Spanish side Rayo Vallecano, the former Manchester United forward remains absent from Filemon’s plans. Djalma Santos is also missing due to unresolved issues following his return from a loan spell at FC Porto.
The squad features a mix of home-based players and a handful of overseas professionals, including Dolly Menga (Sporting Braga), Clinton Mata (Charleroi), and Jonathan Buatu (Fulham).
Angola’s Palancas Negras are due to face the Central African Republic’s Fauves in their AFCON opener. Prior to that, they will travel to Swaziland for a 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier.
