Algeria’s Adlène Guedioura Eager to Make Impact Ahead of Seychelles Clash
Adlène Guedioura has expressed his excitement and determination as he returns to the Algerian national team ahead of their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying opener against Seychelles on Saturday in Blida.
The experienced midfielder, who plays for Crystal Palace in the English Premier League, is in contention for a starting role as the Fennecs begin their campaign to reach the finals in Gabon.
“I am happy to be back with the Greens, and all I hope now is to live up to the trust placed in me,” Guedioura told the Algerian Football Federation’s official website (FAF.dz). “In addition to its importance in terms of points, and from a psychological point of view to give us the confidence necessary to continue our journey with peace of mind, the match against the Seychelles will be played at home. So, for that reason alone, we must win it.”
The match at Mustapha Tchaker Stadium marks Algeria’s first competitive fixture since their disappointing exit in the quarter-finals of the 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea. With expectations high following their impressive showing at the 2014 World Cup, the Fennecs are looking to bounce back and make a strong statement in front of their home crowd.
Guedioura, known for his tenacity and powerful long-range shots, brings valuable experience and leadership to a squad blending established stars with emerging talents. His return is seen as a boost to Algeria’s midfield options as they aim to start their qualifying campaign with a decisive victory.
Algeria are widely considered favourites in their group, which also includes Ethiopia, Lesotho, and Saturday’s opponents Seychelles.
