AFCON 2017 Qualifiers: Guinea Under Pressure Ahead of Crucial Clash with Zimbabwe
Guinea faces a must-win encounter this Sunday against Zimbabwe in Harare for Matchday 2 of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. After a shock 2–1 home defeat to Swaziland, the Syli National are already under immense pressure.
Coach Luis Fernandez is dealing with a depleted squad, as key players including Bouna Sarr and Ibrahima Traoré declined call-ups, while Kamano (Bastia) and Kevin Constant (Trabzonspor) are sidelined through injury. Preparing in South Africa ahead of the trip, Guinea will have to adapt to Zimbabwe’s synthetic pitch and an opponent full of confidence after their opening win in Malawi.
Despite the challenges, captain Florentin Pogba leads a reshuffled team that must respond if Guinea is to stay in the qualification race.
Guinea Starting XI:
Yattara – F. Camara, Pogba, L. Camara – O. Sidibé, Issiaga Sylla, Diarra, Fofana – Soumah, Lass Bangoura, Idrissa Sylla
