Joseph Yaovi Douhadji, a Togolese defender currently playing for Dolphins of Nigeria, shared his thoughts on the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers and Nigeria’s prospects. Speaking with sl10.ng, Douhadji expressed his strong belief that Nigeria will qualify for the tournament, despite any current challenges facing the team.
Douhadji emphasized the enduring strength of the Super Eagles and their reputation in African football:
“Nigeria is undoubtedly a great footballing nation. Any country that is going to face Nigeria knows that it is a big challenge. It’s not because of the current state of the team, it’s the image that the Super Eagles represent in football, so I believe they will do everything to qualify for the 2017 AFCON.”
As for his own aspirations, Douhadji, who has been impressing at the club level with Dolphins, is hopeful of receiving a call-up for Nigeria’s qualifiers in June:
“One of the main goals of a footballer is to wear the jersey of his national team. Do you know the feeling when you hear the national anthem? I want to represent my country but I know I have to earn it and that is why I give my best at all times for my club, Dolphins. I will receive my call-up next June and I believe the time is approaching.”
Douhadji’s commitment to representing his country reflects his passion and desire to prove himself at the international level. With the qualifiers on the horizon, he is eager to showcase his abilities on a bigger stage.
