Yoann Touzghar Chooses Tunisia Over Morocco Ahead of Crucial CAN Qualifiers
The Carthage Eagles have secured a significant reinforcement ahead of their double-header against Senegal in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers: Yoann Touzghar, the RC Lens striker with dual Moroccan-Tunisian nationality, has reportedly committed to representing Tunisia at the international level.
According to Tunisian media, Touzghar has given his consent to Wadii Al Jari, the president of the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF), after a series of discussions aimed at bringing him into the national fold. The player had previously been shortlisted for Tunisia’s squad in August for matches against Botswana and Egypt, but wasn’t included in the final list. Now, his official debut appears imminent.
This addition could provide a timely attacking boost for coach Georges Leekens, especially with Tunisia currently competing in a tightly contested Group G, which also features Egypt, Senegal, and Botswana.
However, the good news is balanced by a potential blow in defense: Bilel Mohsni, the Glasgow Rangers center-back, is doubtful for the first leg in Dakar due to injury. According to National Radio, Mohsni will be evaluated by the national team doctor, Souheil Chamli, who will determine his availability.
With Touzghar’s firepower up front and uncertainty at the back, Tunisia’s upcoming matches promise to be both critical and revealing in their quest for CAN 2015 qualification.
