Tunisia vs Egypt AFCON Qualifier Set for Monastir Amid Security Debate
The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) has confirmed that Tunisia’s final 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt, scheduled for November 19, will be held at the Ben Jannet Stadium in Monastir. The announcement was made by FTF spokesman Nabil Daboussi on local radio this Friday.
Daboussi explained the reasoning behind the venue choice, citing both CAF regulations and fan engagement:
“CAF requires a strict deadline for confirming venues, so regulations prevent us from relocating the match now. From a sporting perspective, we all want it played in Monastir. The fans were excellent during the previous matches there.”
Despite the FTF’s stance, the Ministry of the Interior (MI) has requested the match be moved to Rades due to security concerns. A meeting between the FTF and MI is expected soon to resolve the disagreement.
Tunisia currently tops Group G with 10 points, ahead of Senegal (7) and Egypt (6). Botswana sits at the bottom with 0 points. The match will be decisive for both Tunisia’s group lead and Egypt’s hopes of qualification.
