Seechurn Rajindraparsad Suspended for Six Months Following Controversial Tunisia-Equatorial Guinea Match
The CAF Disciplinary Committee has handed a six-month suspension to Mauritian referee Seechurn Rajindraparsad for his officiating during the contentious Tunisia vs. Equatorial Guinea quarter-final match at the 2015 African Cup of Nations.
Rajindraparsad will no longer officiate any matches in this tournament and has been removed from the CAF Elite A referees list. The committee cited his “very poor performance,” highlighting his “unacceptable inability to maintain calm and take appropriate action to control the players” during the heated match.
The controversy centered around a penalty awarded to Equatorial Guinea in the 92nd minute, despite video replays showing no foul by the Tunisian defender. The match’s closing moments were marked by chaos, with Tunisian players and officials confronting the referee, who had to be escorted to safety by police.
This decision ends a widespread debate about refereeing standards in the 2015 AFCON and underscores CAF’s stance on maintaining discipline and fairness.
