Samir Nasri, long sidelined from the French national team, has once again shown his support for the country of his roots. Following Algeria’s decisive 2-0 victory over Senegal in the group stage of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, the Manchester City midfielder took to Twitter to express his joy:
“Well done for qualifying, proud of this team,” Nasri tweeted on Tuesday night.
This is not the first time Nasri has voiced his admiration for Les Fennecs. During the 2014 World Cup, when Algeria made history by reaching the Round of 16 for the first time, he also celebrated their progress—at that time through a message shared by his partner, Anara Atanes.
While Nasri’s own international career with France has stalled—largely due to off-field controversies and clashes with management—he’s remained connected to Algerian football. His support of the national team reflects a sense of cultural pride and personal identity that transcends borders.
Algeria, meanwhile, continues to build momentum at the 2015 AFCON, heading into the quarter-finals with renewed confidence.
