CAF to Announce New Host of CAN 2015 “Shortly” Following Morocco’s Disqualification
In the wake of Morocco’s disqualification from both hosting and participating in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2015), the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the name of the new host nation will be revealed shortly.
According to the official CAF press release:
“The Executive Committee has taken note of the receipt, on 10 November 2014, of several applications from national associations confirming their wish to organise the 2015 competition on the dates set.”
CAF added that these applications are currently under review, and the final selection of the new host will be made and announced alongside confirmation of the venue and date for the final tournament draw.
Angola Leading the Speculation
As of now, speculation on social media and in football circles is intensifying, with Angola emerging as a frontrunner. Though other countries like Gabon and Nigeria have also shown interest, Angola’s infrastructure—having hosted the 2010 edition—makes it a logistically strong contender.
CAF, however, is keeping the suspense alive, urging fans and federations to wait for the official confirmation, which is expected imminently.
With the tournament dates unchanged and time running short, CAF is racing against the clock to ensure that the 2015 edition of Africa’s premier football competition proceeds as planned—just in a different setting.
