Moussa Sow Reflects on His Decisive Goal Against Ghana at AFCON 2015
Moussa Sow was the hero for Senegal as they secured a 2-1 win over Ghana in their opening Group C clash at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. The Fenerbahçe striker scored the winning goal in stoppage time, delivering a long-awaited victory for the Lions of Teranga in a final phase match — their first since 2010.
Looking back on the dramatic goal, Sow recounted the play:
“I think it was Bouna (Coundoul) who had the ball. He took a while to clear it. I don’t know who got the ball… look, it’s Henri (Saivet). He gives it to Mame (Birame Diouf), who passes it to me. Then I shoot.”
Overcome with emotion after the goal, Sow admitted:
“It’s a relief. I’m happy. I don’t even know what I said anymore, I was so happy. It’s always important for a striker to score goals. Honestly, I was happy tonight — especially since it’s a goal I scored for my country, Senegal.”
Senegal now turn their attention to their next group match — against South Africa. While Sow confessed he’s not too familiar with Bafana Bafana, he acknowledged their strength:
“I don’t really know them, because I don’t know this team. But I know it will also be a difficult match, since they were able to qualify. They still beat Nigeria (the reigning African champions).”
