Lamine Sané Out of CAN 2015 Qualifiers Following Knee Surgery
Senegal will have to navigate the remainder of their CAN 2015 qualifiers without one of their key defensive anchors. Lamine Sané, the captain of Girondins de Bordeaux and a mainstay in Alain Giresse’s 3-4-3 system, has undergone knee surgery and will be sidelined for 5 to 7 weeks.
Sané’s operation, conducted by Professor Franceschi in Marseille, means he will miss the crucial October fixtures against Tunisia (October 10 and 15), as well as the final group stage matches against Egypt in Cairo (November 10) and Botswana in Dakar (November 15).
Medical reports suggest he won’t resume running until just before the final qualifying round, making him unavailable for national team selection during that window.
This is a significant blow for coach Alain Giresse, who had built his defensive setup around Sané’s versatility and leadership. The only chance of seeing Sané back in action for Senegal would be if the Lions secure qualification for the final tournament in Morocco, giving him enough time to recover and reintegrate.
Senegal’s defensive options will now be tested in the high-stakes encounters ahead, as they look to maintain momentum in a competitive Group G.
