KOLO TOURÉ ON 2015 AFCON GROUP: “ONLY THE MOST DETERMINED WILL ADVANCE”
Côte d’Ivoire may have struggled through the qualifiers, but they now face an equally tough test at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, having been drawn into a challenging Group D alongside Cameroon, Mali, and Guinea.
Speaking after the draw, veteran defender Kolo Touré shared his thoughts on what lies ahead:
“It’s a very balanced group. It’s the most determined on the pitch who will get through the first round,” said the Liverpool man, underlining the competitiveness of the group.
Côte d’Ivoire’s qualification was far from smooth, with a humbling 4-1 defeat to Cameroon in the first leg of qualifiers and a draw in Abidjan in the return fixture. However, Touré insists the upcoming AFCON clash will be different:
“We can’t focus on that match. There will be others before. But I can say that, against Cameroon at the CAN, it will be a completely different match because we won’t have to manage a score.”
With Hervé Renard at the helm and experienced names like Yaya Touré, Gervinho, and Kolo Touré in the squad, the Elephants aim to show a different face in Equatorial Guinea as they chase a long-awaited continental title.
