CAN 2015: JONATHAN MENSAH – “THERE IS NEVER AN EASY GROUP AT THE CAN”
Reactions are still pouring in after the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations draw, held on Wednesday in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. Placed in what many are calling the “Group of Death”, Ghana will face Algeria, South Africa, and Senegal in Group C.
For Jonathan Mensah, Ghanaian defender and player for Evian Thonon Gaillard, the group may be tough, but that’s part of the CAN challenge:
“Tough group for Ghana but there is never an easy group at the CAN,” he wrote on his Twitter account, before wisely adding, “Preparation will be the key.”
His sentiment is echoed by Maxwell Konadu, former coach of the Black Stars:
“It’s a very, very tough group. Other teams have said that our group is the ‘group of death,’ and I agree with them. We know that South Africa has a fairly young team, but they are playing very well. So, we must not underestimate anyone. Algeria is playing very well, as is South Africa. As for Senegal, they are a powerhouse in Africa.”
With fierce competition ahead, Ghana knows it must be at its very best to progress in this highly contested group.
