2015 AFCON SEMI-FINAL: Côte d’Ivoire vs DR Congo – A Battle of Revenge and Confirmation
After two days of rest, the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations resumes tonight with a high-stakes clash between Côte d’Ivoire and DR Congo in the first semi-final of the tournament. The match kicks off at 7 p.m. GMT in Bata and promises to be one of the most thrilling encounters yet.
These two sides are no strangers to each other. They faced off in the qualifiers, with Ivory Coast winning 2-1 in Kinshasa, only to be stunned 3-4 by the Leopards in Abidjan. Now, the Elephants are out for revenge, while Florent Ibenge’s men seek confirmation of their rising status.
Both teams had a slow start to the competition:
-
Ivory Coast, under Hervé Renard, struggled in the group stage but shifted gears with convincing wins over Cameroon (1-0) and Algeria (3-1).
-
DR Congo also started with three draws, but then exploded in the quarter-final, coming from behind to defeat Congo-Brazzaville 4-2, thanks in large part to Dieumerci Mbokani’s brace.
Expect a high-tempo, physical, and tactical battle, with stars like Yaya Touré, Gervinho, Gradel, and Mbokani taking center stage.
